Overview

The core software developed by the company is a robust cloud computing file transfer system. I led the initiative to design and execute a frontend portal that offers an intuitive and efficient file-handling experience specifically tailored to the unique needs of the Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry. One of the key challenges was translating complex "asset" transfers (groups of files) into a seamless user experience while maintaining clarity and differentiation between individual file transfers and asset group management.

Problem Space

  • No existing digital platform for asset transfers

  • Visual translation of “asset” transfers presents unique challenges

  • Key questions: How might we visually represent and simplify the transfer of "assets" (groups of files) in a way that resonates with M&E workflows? How might we clearly differentiate the handling experience between "assets" and individual file transfers?

Project Format

Laptop / Desktop Web Application

The primary tools used by the target group are laptops or large size monitors. Large screen design is a suitable direction, including tablets.

Target User Group

Vendor Crews

Files and assets are transferred from production teams to associated vendors. Vendors will be the main user group to retrieve and manage the files received.

Understanding the Working Environment

As a UX Designer, it’s important that I understand how the software being offered is operating to be able to produce the best frontend experience. I got together with the Director of Pipeline Services to understand the operations of the cloud file transfer and backend structures. By going through this exercise, I was able to understand all programs involved in the transferring process.

Asset vs File Handling Experience

I solved the asset (group of files) vs file handling challenge by placing radio buttons to navigate between the two different view modes.

Transfer Queue

Transfer queue contains three different page navigations: Active, History, and Syncs. Each tab can manage and control active transfer queue items, completed transfer items, and file syncing schedules.
